Actors within our Final Music Video - Scarlett Giannotti

Our Music Video was different from the usual, expected, ordinary videos of today - we brought something new, using feet as symbolic representation of human nature. Actions, emotions and behaviour had to be over expressed because our shoes didn't have facial features to imply how they feel.
Roles:
Singing Busker - Played by Scarlett Giannotti

Evaluation of Maggie Riley's - 'MoonLight Shadow' Music Video - Scarlett Giannotti

There were two versions of the Music Video, to Moonlight Shadow - the full-length original, and a shorter one which omits a verse. Reasons for the shorter version was for the requirements of some TV broadcasters.
The video is separated between a Narrative, telling the story behind the song and Performance from Maggie Reilly and the band. The location of the performance was set in a living room, around a warm orange open fire; giving a welcome, homely comfort to the viewers which contrasted with the darkness of the night from which the Narrative was set in.
The opening of the music video begun with the musical introduction and the narrative of a frantic woman running trough the forest whilst being watched by an owl. When Maggie Reilly begins to sing the video switches to her and the band performing in the relaxed environment living room.
The cross cuts between the two are continuous throughout the video which maintains the audiences interest as they watch the progression of the performance and narrative.
The outfits of the band are a representation of the '80's Casual Fashion' - Maggie Reilly wore a neutral coloured boater and the men wore loose t-shirts and jeans. Whereas the female character in the narrative wore a long flowing white dress which waved in the wind as she ran through the forest. The pure colour contrasted with the dark of night, making her stand out. It could have also been a representation of the type of character she was, a symbol of her femininity, virginity.
There were a variety of different camera angles within this music video, some which were repeated. One camera angle which i found most engaging was a hand held angle as the female ran up stairs representing her frantic state, hurry and pannic.

Prelim Task Evaluation - Scarlett Giannotti

'Moonlight Shadow' by Maggie Reilly was the song given to produce a Music Video as our Prelim Task. The 80's single was a mixed genre of pop and multi-instrumental; giving an overall mellow sound.
Artist Music Videos we were inspired by were Lisa Mitchells fantasy, dream like theme.

Our idea was based upon the mystery, magic and fantacy of the film 'The Chronicals of Narnia - The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe' .
Further research into 'Moonlight Shadow' we found rumours of the song having been written about the death of John Lennon. We decided to include his life story into our music video through the use of photographs. Combining fantasy with reality, bringing the two together - within reality there are evils, pain and death much like John Lennons murder and the suffering left behind with his friends, family and fans.
Maggie Reilly is a female vocalist therefore we used a female as the main character, not to confuse viewers. Our music video was to only be a narrative - we experimented with miming the lyrics as apart of the performance process however found it difficult, with an armature look. Therefore decided without miming it was as if the character was thinking which was better instead. We aimed to open the music video with the female walking into a closet inspired by 'Narnia' to allow the audience to identify our obvious inspiration and theme. She would then re-appear on the other side, having gone through the magical closet, past curtains and into an enchanted forest. On the ground, infornt of her feet lay a basket (entwining the imaginary and fantasy of childhood story tales and characters - such as Little Red Ridding Hood). As the character walks along the path through the forest she would collect images of John Lennon's life in her basket. Until finally admiring her collection towards the end of the music video before selecting and revealing his and her ending to the Music video, ending on a cliff hanger. The meaning behind our video is it is OK to dream but remain in reality.
The Props we included were a weaved basket (symbolising Little Red Ridding Hood as apart of the Fantasy), Plum curtains as a pretty entrance.
Our chosen location was a forest because we wanted to have an enchanted feel to our music video. Our main characters outfit was a simple black doll dress, symbolising her innocence and black to show grieving.
Divided Work
Scarlett (Me) - Filmed, Directed, set-up and preparation of scene, brought curtain prop.
Jessica - Acted, Directed,set-up and preparation of scene, brought the basket and pictures of John Lennon Props.
Hayley - set-up, Directed and preparation of the scene and brought peg prop.
Jay - set-up,Directed and preparation of the scene.
Overall I really like the final outcome of our Prelim Task, we achieved exactly what we had set out to do. The plum colour of the curtains contrast well with the greens of the leaves and browns of the trees.  Mistakes were made due to the limited time we were given to film - such as unwanted people in the background. We did not find a wardrobe suitable to film the beginning 'Narnia' inspired opening therefore we improvised. We used a variety of different shots, angles and camera techniques which our video more interesting portraying our skills and a professional look - one favourite camera technique of mine was hand held point of view shot, resembling the female walking as she looks down at the floor in front. The jagged, unsteady camera shots have a realising feel to create empathy for the audience.

Location Research - Scarlett Giannotti

Locations we looked into before filming were Hyde Park, Front room and Carneby Street.

In our actual music video we came to find difficulty in some of the filming locations; Carnaby Street was too busy and with the long shot distance we needed pedestrians were constantly passing in front of the camera. Therefore we relocated to Brick Lane which was allot quieter and a more ideal setting, however difficulty was still encountered with vehicle and pedestrian passers.
Our reasons for not filming in Hyde Park was due to the travel distance and making the best use of our time around our different schedules. Therefore we relocated to a local park, which was more accessible to us. The front room location was quite varied we had the choice of all four of our groups front room, we decided to choose Hayley's front room - because it was more suited with a bigger space to film in.

Costume Ideas - Scarlett Giannotti

Character Profile: Name: Un-identified
Age: Un-identified
Gender: Female
Occupation: Busker/ aspiring singer
In-come: Daily busking income (spared loose change)

The main character of our Music Video and only musical performer is a female busker. As a full time busker, presentation is just as important as talent -  she must be seen as approachable by paying passers in appearance and her outfits represent the genre of her music; however with spared change as her only income her clothes will be shabby, old and worn.
I have chosen neutral brown Parker coat (which seems realistic because of the practicality to being outside) to be worn over a simple dolly dress (entwining her innocence), paired with ripped tights and boots with a distressed look and a hole in the soles (symbolically portraying how her emotions are distressed, worn and damaged).
The majority clothes are dark, representing the negativity and upset within the lyrics of the song but the scarlet dolly dress symbolises the heat, love, and passion behind the song, relationship, singing and Melody. The characters hair and make-up is effortless, maintaining the minimalistic feel.
