Analysis 2- "Decode" Paramore - Scarlett Giannotti

Paramore are an American Rock Band from Tennesse who formed in 2004. The band consists of lead vocalist Hayley Williams, lead guitarist Josh Farro, bassist Jeremy Davis, drummer Zac Farro, and rhythm guitarist Taylor York.
one of the gineric conventions Paramore's Decode Music Video has included general Music Video Conventions and Rock genre conventions. AVariety of Camera Shots have been used such as longshots, close-ups and mid shots from different angles have been used which creates emphasis on the artist, location and emotions. And also give the audience a sense of being there are relating to the artist. Some Close-up have been used to reimberse the lyriccal meaning behind the song.
The Camera movements follow and trace the differnt member of Paramore Band as a Narrative unfolds. Specific sections and shots of scenes from the popular film Twilight have been used to show their influence; this breaks up the music video and emphasise the meaning behind the lyrics as the audience are able to relate to the film.
Mise-en-scene is shown through the arrangement of the performers, props, Costume, Setting which emphasises Decode influence from Twilight film.
The editing techniques that have been used are Jump Cuts which allows a sudden change from one scene to another. Transitions such as fade and dissolve; common in Music Videos as they create different effects to cuts. One particular effect which I found mesmeric was the ability to make out lead singer Hayley Williams was floating as she remained still whilst the background moved.

The song throughout remained the same; Vocals and Music only; the clips from twilight were muted as Decode played over them.
The lead Singer's Red Hair stands out amoung the green nutral nature of the Forest which higlighting her importance as all of the focus is on her.
The Music Video was in Colour throughout; the lighting however has a dark essence which portrayed an dull mood; a convention usually used in Rock Genres.

Analysis 2- "Single ladies" Beyonce by Hayley Donovan

Analysis of Beyonce 'Single Ladies' Music Video Conventions

Metallic Glove emphasise the lyrics of the song
Beyonce's music video to 'Single Ladies in some ways goes against the typical conventions of a music video however embeds them in subtle ways. In terms of the costume they are very simple; plain back leotards, this in turn emphasises the lyrics and highlights the metallic silver  glove on Beyonces hand which is the item that represents the whole song.

The music video does not have a narrative however is based upon a performance. Beyonce is performing all throughout the video; both singing and dancing. This type of convention used fits in with the genre it is portraying which is R&B. Also the use of African American women gives off a sense of R&B as it was originated from African American individuals.
Performance convention from Beyonce

The video is set in one place a white room , this is a simple content however it adds to the simplicity of the costumes and again emphases on the lyrics and the performance  of Beyonce. The use of lighting is used in a subtle but dynamic way , the whole music video is in black and white so this goes again conventions of a typical music video.

Lastly all throughout the video choreography is used , this is a huge part in making this music video a success , every beat of the song fits in with a different dance move and it can be said that the pace of music fits in with the pace of the choreography and whole video itself.

Analysis 2 -"One More Drink" Ludacris Ft. T-Pain by Jay Gomez

"One More Drink" is the second official single off Ludacris' album, Theater of the Mind. The song "co-stars" T-Pain. The song was released on iTunes on October 28, 2008. Ludacris performed the song live while he and T-Pain appeared as musical guests on Saturday Night Live. The song samples Shalamar's "Take That to the Bank".

The song itself is a parody of what may have happened to him during a coupled of nights out at clubs and bars after he has had a few alcoholic drinks in his system. The video begins at a counselling session for addicts, in this case it is for alcoholics. The video follows the narrative of the song which follows him through the few nights he goes out meeting new women each night and what he sees at first.

The video uses different camera shots and angles to show how the events happens throughout the  song. Continuity editing is used very well to cut from one evening to another and we still know that this is not a month later, it is also mentioned in the song.

The two artists in this video, Ludacris and T-Pain, perform and lip sync throughout the music video which is a main convention of what is needed in a music video.

The lighting is used well in the video so we can clearly see how the narrative if followed throughout the entire video which is a good element for parodies as they need to be clear to show how they are mimicking.

Analysis 2 - "Coffee and TV Blur" By Jessica Hung Han Yun

In this music video directed by Hammer & Tongs, shows the narrative of a milk carton called Milky who goes on a journey to find Graham Coxon (lead singer of Blur) this music video uses the convention of a music video by a number of ways one of the ways that it uses the conventions is firstly by having a narrative. Using a narrative in a music video is widely used in the music industry this is to en capture the audience and to keep them hooked on the video. By introducing the situation straight away to the audience it captured their attention straightaway, by the first shot of the milk carton with a picture on the side of Graham Coxon and a clear title saying MISSING.
Continues cutting of the shots are used throughout the video and typical convention that shows the a good flow of the story and the narrative to the audience a clear convention that is always used in most videos.
As well as continuous cuts in the video the cuts in the video also go with pace of the song a convention used so it suits the pace and tempo flowing with the way the audience perceive the video. For example at the beginning video the shot from the father to the photo of Graham Coxon then to the sister/daughter on the phone all these shots/refocusing are all what creates a flowing pace as it goes with the tempo of the video.
A performance and lip syncing is used in the video and convention used in a majority of the music videos. Within this video it uses performance near the end of  video and it is then incorporated within the narrative as the lead singer is the missing son on the milk carton.  Performance is an important convention as this advertises the band even more and it also gives the audience and idea of the style of the band as well as what from they see form the video and hear from the music.

For the conventions of mise-en-scene the setting and the locations are appropriate to the narrative an important factor as this is what is used to create a realistic atmosphere to the audience. The costume for the characters are also realistic, for the band they are dressed in standard clothing which reflects the same status as the mother, father and sister. The lighting is also very realistic as this song or the band is not a dramatic band so the use of lighting is simple creating a factual experience.
