Analysis 2 - "Coffee and TV Blur" By Jessica Hung Han Yun

In this music video directed by Hammer & Tongs, shows the narrative of a milk carton called Milky who goes on a journey to find Graham Coxon (lead singer of Blur) this music video uses the convention of a music video by a number of ways one of the ways that it uses the conventions is firstly by having a narrative. Using a narrative in a music video is widely used in the music industry this is to en capture the audience and to keep them hooked on the video. By introducing the situation straight away to the audience it captured their attention straightaway, by the first shot of the milk carton with a picture on the side of Graham Coxon and a clear title saying MISSING.
Continues cutting of the shots are used throughout the video and typical convention that shows the a good flow of the story and the narrative to the audience a clear convention that is always used in most videos.
As well as continuous cuts in the video the cuts in the video also go with pace of the song a convention used so it suits the pace and tempo flowing with the way the audience perceive the video. For example at the beginning video the shot from the father to the photo of Graham Coxon then to the sister/daughter on the phone all these shots/refocusing are all what creates a flowing pace as it goes with the tempo of the video.
A performance and lip syncing is used in the video and convention used in a majority of the music videos. Within this video it uses performance near the end of  video and it is then incorporated within the narrative as the lead singer is the missing son on the milk carton.  Performance is an important convention as this advertises the band even more and it also gives the audience and idea of the style of the band as well as what from they see form the video and hear from the music.

For the conventions of mise-en-scene the setting and the locations are appropriate to the narrative an important factor as this is what is used to create a realistic atmosphere to the audience. The costume for the characters are also realistic, for the band they are dressed in standard clothing which reflects the same status as the mother, father and sister. The lighting is also very realistic as this song or the band is not a dramatic band so the use of lighting is simple creating a factual experience.
